Tehran, May. 29 (SENA) - A member of Iranian Parliament’s Economic Commission says Iran Mercantile Exchange take over the market of date palm fruit is quite beneficial for both farmers and consumers since the parasitic role of middlemen is eliminated and we can rest assure that the fruits reach the consumers in good quality and fair price.

According to Securities and Exchange News Agency report, Habiballah Nikzadi who represents southwestern city of Bam in the Iranian parliament asserted:  recently some profiteers have engaged in hoarding dates which are quite popular during fasting moth of Ramadan among the people and that has caused the prices to surge.  The positive role that IME has had is to eliminate middlemen and also rendering hoarding impossible for profiteers which a great job as far as stability of the market is concerned.

He continued: in order to increase the efficiency of IME in the market, it is crucial to promote both the quality and capacity of our refrigerated warehouses so that all the harvest finds its way to the IME for greater good of farmers and consumers equally.

The role of agricultural cooperatives should not be undermined since they are highly effective in providing a fair and secure platform for market activist to directly get involved in the business of date palm fruit which has a significant position in both domestic market and also non-petroleum exports portion of Iranian economy, Nikzadi concluded.
